What is the MS Swimathon?
The MS Swimathon is a Queensland based fundraising initiative where teams of at least 4 people are sponsored by friends, family and work colleagues to swim in a 12-hour relay; raising vital funds for Queenslanders living with multiple sclerosis (MS).
Although it is a challenge, you don’ t need to be a ‘competitive’ swimmer to participate – people of all abilities can join in and take part. You can swim any style or distance that suits you; whether it be 1 or 100 laps in freestyle, breaststroke, sidestroke, or doggy paddle – it is all about participation!
Eight MS Swimathon events are held across the state in the Sunshine Coast, Gold Coast, Toowoomba, Redcliffe, Rockhampton, Gladstone, Mackay and Townsville.
When will we be able to register?
Registrations for our first few MS Swimathon events will open soon. Simply register your interest here and keep an eye on your inbox for our exclusive launch day offer!
Why has the MS Swimathon season launch been postponed to 2021?
The health and wellbeing of our MS community and MS Swimathon event supporters is our number one priority. Due to the unpredictable and everchanging nature of the COVID-19 pandemic, the launch of the 2021 season has been postponed to allow more time and greater planning around COVID safe events. We hope that by postponing the launch of our 2021 season, we can ensure the safest and most enjoyable event experience for all our supporters.
What's new in 2021?
While your favourite elements of the MS Swimathon remain, there are some new introductions to help us make an even bigger splash:
In late 2019, we introduced a new website and fundraising dashboard with some great new features! You’ll be able to unlock badges as your fundraising progresses and add blog entries about why your taking part in the MS Swimathon.
It does mean that when you register you will not be able to retrieve your details – and will have to complete the full registration process.
If you are registering for more than one person, you will also need to ensure that each person has a unique email address – your username is your email, and therefore more than one person cannot be signed up using the same email address.
What measures have MS Queensland put in place to make the event COVID Safe?
MS Queensland is working with all the relevant authorities and frameworks to ensure we are able to deliver the safest event possible for everyone involved.
Throughout the event you will notice:
- QR check in for all participants and spectators attending the event.
- Social distancing guidelines
- Hand sanitising stations
- Increased cleaning for high frequency areas.
We will be monitoring all government advice and regulations regularly and will continue to work with all relevant stakeholders prior to the event and on event day to ensure that the event is as safe as possible.
We will communicate with all participants regularly as to any changes they should expect or any new rules and regulations around the event.
We also ask that any participant who are not feeling well or who are showing any mild symptoms such as cough, fever, shortness of breath or fatigue, to stay home and not attend the event.
