The Rockhampton vs Gladstone MS Swimathon is a fundraising event where teams of at least 6 people are sponsored by friends, family and work colleagues to swim in a 12 hour relay; raising vital funds for Queenslanders living with multiple sclerosis (MS). You don’t need to be a ‘competitive’ swimmer to participate – people of all abilities can join in and take part.
You can swim any style or distance that suits you; whether it be 1 or 100 laps in freestyle, breaststroke, sidestroke, or doggy paddle – it is all about participation and raising funds to help beat MS!
Dive in and have fun!
Rockhampton Community Champion: Rachel Kerr
Rachel was diagnosed with MS in 2006, just before graduating from high school. Rachel mysteriously went almost completely blind one day. An emergency medical flight to Brisbane and a multitude of tests later, was has told she had MS.
Rachel says that for her, MS is a constant struggle between what she would like to do and what she is able to do. It presents new challenges everyday and MS Queensland is actively working in communities to help people like Rachel overcome these hurdles.
Gladstone Community Champion: Kerry Evans
Kerry lives a very busy life- sharing her time amongst her 6 grandchildren, volunteering as a Tai Chi instructor, looking after her dog, Sadie and also, keeping active. Despite all she does, Kerry has a daily struggle. Kerry lives with MS.
After participating in our Rockhampton MS Swimathon a few years ago, Kerry is extremely excited to welcome a MS Swimathon to Gladstone.
